It’s the end of the year and I’m still not in LA. That means it’s time for my inaugural LOS ANGELES TOP TEN. These are my top ten moments of 2022, “top” being open for interpretation, “ten” being not. I chose them because I can’t really remember anything anymore and these flitted into my brain first. They are, por supuesto, in no particular order.
Watching Tár at the Americana theater because some movies you just are never going to watch at home (sorry, Roma!). Was it good? Who knows and who cares! It’s less a question of good or bad and more a question of is there a moment where Cate Blanchett asks her emotionally abused assistant, “And my matcha?” in order to secretly go through her email?! The answer is yes!
Friends in LA! With Covid being OVER (lol JK) it was nice to see familiar faces on the West Coast in various capacities. In the words of Golden Girls: “Thank you for being my friends.”
As previously recapped, election results that were favorable to my personal political leanings and preferences in a year when I was too exhausted to do much to sway public opinion besides my friend Megan and I berating a bartender named Greg to vote for Karen Bass in the primary.
Not too many forest fires, all things considered!
The light in my office, most seasons, and the view of sunsets over the hills. Turns out sunsets in the West are quite beautiful, even through smog-streaked glass!
Finishing an Ann Patchett book in a park in Beverly Hills only to be served a $75 parking ticket for arriving back to my car two minutes after the meter expired. It was like they fined me for reading! I love this town.
A return to in person yoga classes, which for me, a white woman in her thirties, is as important as water or air or overpriced skin care.
Eating a Del Taco impossible taco to confirm that I never need to eat a Del Taco impossible taco ever again.
The Lefton family.
The Safe n’ Warm chosen (and real) family who have accompanied me on my highs and lows and helped this writer hone her craft AKA mining life for content!
Here’s to another year of haphazard adventures in the city that loves to sleep!
